Nomi’s Song

The pronounced shoulders under the silk tie top and the black and white ensembles does as much to capture the energy of early 80’s performer Klaus Nomi as his voice, in full operatic drama and supernatural oddness, shrieking “Total Eclipse”. In spring 2007 when Martin Margiela and Nicolas Ghesquière sprang upon us the graphic shoulders of that era, it was in fact their operatic drama and supernatural oddness that drew us to them. Two years later everyone is singing Nomi’s song.

For your further viewing pleasure, Klaus and Joey Arias singing back up to David Bowie on Saturday Night Live, 1979.
