You really have to give to Missoni for reinterpreting what is one of the most narrow product categories every season. With each collection they resubmit their signature stripe pattern knits as fashion news, updating them with bold (and sometimes gimmicky) ideas.
Pierre Cardin, 1989
Cardin stepped in line to the times, adapting yet again his strucutral geometry to the tastes of the late 80’s.
Optimism, 1992
Despite that Grunge and Gangster Rap brought bleak cynicism to the fore in youth culture, the early 90’s managed to sustain and broadcast a voice for unbridled fantasy. Charged with ideals of action, utopia, and mild metaphysical exploration, the undoubtedly futurist prerogative took root in cyberpunk aspirations and techno beats. Opus III’s Kirsty Hawkshaw suggests a harder strain of optimism, admittedly idealistic, but one suited to a hard-smackingly abrasive and vivid reality. Here’s to 2010…
YSL Spring 2010
Stefano Pilati put out an enigmatic collection for Spring 2010, though it wouldn’t be the first time. It’s often the rule rather than the exception that his collections’ messages fall on deaf ears only to end up ringing within a few seasons.
