Kraut Rock, 2010
The first thing that came to mind when I saw the Celine resort collection was 1970’s Kraut Rock and its aspirations of simplicity, abstraction, and a look towards the future. The second was this old collection by Raf Simons. Hesitant to call out any spiritual motivations, but definitely it’s a whole new outlook we have here…
Joan Collins, 1985
Quite the Mad Hatter, Joan discusses her own line of head wear with a persistent and slightly rude Bryan Gumbel.
Missoni, 1991
You really have to give to Missoni for reinterpreting what is one of the most narrow product categories every season. With each collection they resubmit their signature stripe pattern knits as fashion news, updating them with bold (and sometimes gimmicky) ideas.
Versace Jeans Couture
Versace jeans featuring the hot up and coming Belgian athlete, Jean Claude Van Damme.
Stryx
A spelling variation of the river of the dead that encircles the underworld and the name of a 1978 macabre themed Italian variety show featuring the disco talents of Patty Pravo, Amanda Lear, and Grace Jones…
Pierre Cardin, 1989
Cardin stepped in line to the times, adapting yet again his strucutral geometry to the tastes of the late 80’s.
Think Pink
Gert Jonkers and Jop van Bennekom, the makers of Fantastic Man, have certainly had pink on their brain. This spring they debut their women’s counterpart The Gentlewoman headed up by Showstudio’s Penny Martin. The first issue features designer of the moment Phoebe Philo on the cover (which is less pink and more of a cosmetic nude).
